Amazing Summer Adventures – August 2026

The month of July marked a chapter of adventure, growth, and fun for Troop 226. At the beginning of the month, we had Philmont in New Mexico. In the middle of the month, we had Camp Chawanakee in the Sierra Mountains. Through these two major summer journeys, our scouts went outside their comfort zone to achieve great things.

A crew of 12 Scouts from our troop went to Philmont Scout Ranch for a 12-day backpacking trip braving the harsh terrain of the Rocky Mountains. The crew hiked over 70 miles and reached an elevation of over 9,000 feet with their heavy backpacks. Hiking isn’t the only thing they did! The crew also did rock climbing, bouldering, rappelling, gun shooting, blacksmithing, high ropes courses, mine cave tours, environmental conservation, and much more. Each scout returned home feeling triumphant that they had survived Philmont!

Then, 11 of our scouts went to Camp Chawanakee, which is a week-long summer camp at Shaver Lake. The scouts spent 7 days in high elevation, enjoying the scenic lake and encountering several wildlife such as chipmunks, deer, frogs as well as bald eagles. During this time, they engaged in activities like kayaking, swimming, climbing, horseback riding, archery, and more. In addition, they participated in campfires, scavenger hunts, service and even a staff vs scouts volleyball showdown. This summer camp was a great opportunity for troop 226 to earn merit badges, develop their leadership skills, and forge bonds that will last a lifetime.
