The Scouts BSA program

The Scouts BSA is a national program for young people that teaches life skills, leadership, and good citizenship, all through enabling the Scouts to learn what interests them and try new things. Scouting has specific objectives known as the Aims of Scouting, achieved by the program’s leadership and teaching methods which allow Scouts and volunteer leaders to get the same great experience anywhere in the country and at every level of the program. Scouts work towards the aims by planning adventures and collaborating with their peers, supported by the guidance of adult leadership.

The Aims of Scouting

Character Development

All the skills learned in Scouting are values-based, helping Scouts to achieve the program’s mission: “to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.”

Leadership Development

Young people in the Scouting program learn and practice leadership not just to further their own goals but to support and bring out the best in others; to make the world a better place.

Citizenship Training

Scouts learn and decide how they can contribute to and build their communities, from local to global.

Personal Fitness

Scouts gain an understanding about how caring for themselves allows them to show up at their best to support their values and others.

Troop 226 Scouts achieve and exceed these aims by practicing the eight methods of Scouting in their leadership and in all their activities. Interested in learning more?
