After a busy January full of fun, February was equally full of activities. To start off we had two of our most experienced Scouts, Ariana Ludwig and Grace Vargas, earn the rank of Eagle. This is a significant accomplishment in Scouting because less than 8% of scouts achieve the Eagle rank. In addition to the Troop’s newest Eagle Scouts, we are fortunate to have several new Scouts joining our Troop to follow in the footsteps of these accomplished scouts and learn from the experiences of the past Eagle Scouts. During the months of February and March, the Cub Scouts bridge their 10 and 11-year-old Cubs into Scout Troops.
Troop 226 is very excited to welcome 4 new scouts bridging from local Cub Scout Troops. In addition, we have received a lot of interest from girls joining Scouts for the first time. Our Troop 226 roster is growing quickly in 2026 with a total of 6 new girls joining in the first two months of this year. Girls, who want to join our Troop, join for many different reasons. Some girls are here to make friends, so if you are that type of person, you will always see a joyful face that will welcome you. Some Scouts join because they enjoy camping and earning merit badges, which are both things we do right here at Troop 226. Scouting provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills. Scouts have the opportunity to be in a different position of responsibility (POR) every six-month term. These leadership roles include leading the Troop overall as well as leading in smaller groups such as a patrol. My position of Scribe is one of the leadership roles in our Troop. Every scout will hold a variety of leadership roles during their scouting journey; you might even have the opportunity to be the troop’s overall leader, the Senior Patrol Leader.
A few of the events that kept us busy in February included the Annual Planning Committee refresh where all Scouts contribute to plan meetings, activities and events for the upcoming year. In addition to being able to help select campouts, scouts also had the opportunity to volunteer to lead and plan a campout. We also celebrated Scout Sunday with the local parish at St. Gregory the Great on February 8, 2026.
If you are a girl between the ages of 11 and 17 who loves outdoors, nature, and making lifelong friends, Troop 226 is a great place to grow and make friends. Anyone is welcome to attend a meeting to check our troop out before joining. We meet at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church at 6:45pm on Wednesdays.
