Out with the old and in with the new! It’s 2026 and Troop 226 is off to a great start with new leadership positions filled, lots of campouts planned, and even a handful of fresh faces. Our first campout this year was Camp Balboa. After arriving at the Balboa campsite Friday night, we pitched our tents and played glow in the dark Capture the Flag, which was super fun. Before climbing into our tents for the night we had free time.
First thing Saturday morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of oatmeal, oranges, and orange juice. Before lunch, more experienced scouts taught the less experienced scouts two new skills. Our focus was on first aid where we learned about removing people from a smoke-filled room, started learning the basics of CPR, and how to care for various injuries!
Our lunch, executed by the Grubmaster, was chicken quesadillas and more oranges and orange juice. After lunch we learned about predicting weather conditions and hazards to ensure we are prepared when planning future campouts. While waiting for our last older scout to arrive and teach the final skill for the campout, we planned skits for the upcoming campfire, played a game, and ate a snack. Finally, we had our last skill session, which was learning how to tie knots including sheet bend and bowline.
Our next activities included more skit practice and preparing and eating our scrumptious taco bar dinner. Lastly, we had an entertaining campfire with songs, skits, and stories – one of the best parts of any campout. With the campfire concluded we unzipped our tents and dived into our cozy sleeping bags.
Waking early Sunday morning we quickly packed up our campsite and hungrily devoured pastries and juice for breakfast (luckily not orange juice again). Sadly, it was time to say goodbye to Camp Balboa for now.
As you can see Troop 226 is a troop that is worth joining to not only have fun with other scouts but to learn critical lifelong skills.
