Another active month for Troop 226 encompassed numerous fun activities, from service projects, to campouts, and preparing for Philmont. This month was full of new learnings and experiences.
In mid April, our troop participated in the Mataguay trail building service project. Several Scouts spent hours creating a pathway, so that it can continue to be used by the scouts and staff. Scouts were hard at work clearing vegetation and shaping paths.
Additionally, our troop hosted a movie night, where Scouts got to invite a friend to join them. The Scouts and guests enjoyed a fun evening getting to know each other.
In the beginning of May, our troop held our annual beach campout at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. This campout is unique because newer Scouts got the opportunity to accomplish several rank requirements, while the experienced Scouts got to guide and teach them. Our newer Scouts came back from the campout having gained lots of knowledge and finishing several requirements, and the older Scouts enjoyed practicing their leadership skills.
Also at the start of May, the Philmont 2026 Crew had their Unit Backpacking Trip, a prep backpacking trip to train for their 12 day outing in the summer of 2026. The Unit Backpacking Trip was designed for the newer Scouts, for them to get an introduction to backpacking, educate them in trail etiquette, safety, and gear, all to prepare them for Philmont.
