January was a quiet month as all the scouts were waking up from winter break. We decided it would be best to start the year off slowly with an Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST). Planned and led by scouts, we had lots of fun teaching and learning about team development and effective communication skills through pinecones, goats, explosions, and Pokémon.
We then started February off with many activities including a Feeding San Diego service project where we cleaned and packed 2,400 pounds of potatoes and labeled 3,600 pounds of rice for community groups like the School Pantry Program. Less than a week later, we attended a bridging ceremony hosted by a local cub scout pack. During Webelos Woods a few months prior, we caught the interest of two 5th graders, Gabriela and Madelyn, through our teaching of “zombie” first aid. During the bridging ceremony, they became fully fledged scouts and were welcomed into our troop. They are now part of the T226 family!
Lastly, even though it is so early in the year we already have established astonishing plans for the remainder. A 2.5-week trip to Iceland over the summer has been in the works for almost 4 years. We are excited to go on this once in a lifetime opportunity. Also planned is a spelunking trip to the mud caves of Anza Borrego. These are just a few of the many events that have been brought to life by our amazing troop.
